New funding available to create safer local roads

Applications are now open for Round Six of the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.
Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz encouraged local councils to work with local residents and industry stakeholders to identify and prioritise upgrade projects and submit an application.
“The Program provides funding for upgrades that will improve productivity and efficiency for our local businesses and road safety for all motorists,” Mr Buchholz said.
“Funding is available for road improvements such as the construction of extended acceleration lanes from heavy vehicle rest areas, major intersection upgrades, sealing and road widening works, and road realignments.”
Grants of up to $5 million are available under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program to meet up to 50% of the total cost of each project.
Applications under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program close on 30 March 2018.
Mr Buchholz said better road and heavy vehicle infrastructure will result in better productivity and safer roads for locals.
“A strong regional roads network is crucial to ensure a safer run on the roads for residents and meet the needs of our local businesses making freight from supplier to market more efficient,” Mr Buchholz said.
