Boonah Bags New Town Centre Redevelopment

Boonah is set to become more vibrant and connected to the community thanks to a grant from the Coalition Government to help fund the redevelopment of the town centre under the Building Better Regions Fund – Infrastructure Projects stream.

Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz, announced a significant investment of $1.59 million in Federal Funding to assist Scenic Rim Regional Council in delivering the Town Centre Redevelopment and build a strong local economy, driving jobs for the long term.

“This is a fantastic announcement to make for Boonah with the project receiving $1.59 million to redevelop the town centre, improving and enhancing the overall vibrancy and connectivity of the area,” Mr Buchholz said.

“This project will boost local employment with 18 jobs created during construction in addition to two ongoing roles, ensuring our region will continue to thrive and prosper into the future.”

Scenic Rim Councillor Rick Stanfield welcomed the announcement of the federal funding which will help Council to maintain the momentum of the revitalisation of Boonah and thanked Member for Wright Scott Buchholz for his support.

"The Boonah Town Square project will ensure that High Street remains relevant to a new generation and I'm confident that as this project unfolds it will bring a new sense of energy and opportunity to Boonah," he said.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said he was always appreciative of the support of the region's federal member Scott Buchholz in advocating for Council for funding for the Boonah Town Square project.

"This matching funding complements the provisions Council made in its 2017-18 and 2018-19 Budgets towards the renewal of the Boonah town centre as part of its commitment to ensuring we have vibrant and active towns supporting our communities for the future," he said.

"This particular project will allow us to boost the capacity of the car park at the rear of the Council Chambers and improve access to High Street as well as improve the forecourt of the chambers building and extend the town centre precinct out onto the street to incorporate a versatile multi-function streetside area.

"Boonah is well-known for its high school formal procession at the end of each year and its Chamber of Commerce-led street Christmas party. We believe these upgrades will provide an enhanced environment for community enjoyment, showcasing the heritage of Boonah."
