BOOST FOR LOCAL ROADS IN THE LOCKYER VALLEY

Lockyer Valley Regional Council is set to receive $927,079 extra to upgrade local roads as part of a $2.2 billion boost to road safety announced by the Liberal National Government.

Federal Member for Wright and Assistant Minister for Roads and Transport Scott Buchholz said the extra funding to local councils is the result of a major boost to the successful Roads to Recovery Program.

“This program plays a vital role in supporting councils, like Lockyer Valley to get on with the job of delivering better road infrastructure and I’m proud to be part of a Government that is committed to ensuring Australians get home safely,” Mr Buchholz said.

Lockyer Valley Mayor, Councillor Tanya Milligan said the extra funding would allow Lockyer Valley Regional Council to put the spotlight on road safety in the region even more.

“This additional funding boost from the Federal Government, through the Roads to Recovery Program will allow Council to determine our local priorities throughout our region and fund them,” Cr Milligan said.

“I thank Scott Buchholz and the Federal Government for this additional funding, which will make the Lockyer Valley safer, both now and in the future.”

Lockyer Valley Regional Council will receive an additional $927,079 taking its total to $4,635,393.

“An extra $550million is also being allocated to the Black Spot program that councils can apply for to target notorious danger spots on our local roads, where serious crashes have occurred,” Mr Buchholz said.

“We will also deliver a further $571.1 million to improve the safety and efficiency of heavy vehicle operations through the Bridges Renewal Program, Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program and Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiatives (HVSI).
