Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz joined with Queenslanders from across the State at the RNA Showgrounds for one of the largest agricultural showcase events of the year.

The Royal Queensland Show, affectionately known as the ‘Ekka’ officially commenced on Friday 9 August.

Scott Buchholz said it was the state’s biggest ‘coming together’ moment for those that live in regional and rural Queensland and the South East corner.

“The Ekka really is a celebration of all things Queensland. For me and many in the rural communities I represent, it is about showcasing regional Queensland to those in the South East.

“The amazing produce you see here today, the fantastic horsemanship and cattle display is testament to the hard work and care of regional people, particularly farmers,” Scott Buchholz said.

Scott Buchholz said this year’s Ekka was particularly important, as the ongoing drought continued to impact many of the people and product on display at the Ekka.

“I think it is vital that we continue to connect the agricultural regions of Queensland to the major population centres. The Ekka should serve as a reminder to the rest of us that the drought is not over, people are still doing it tough.

“The Ekka puts a face and a story to the hardship of many in rural Queensland. Now, go out - put some coin behind the cause, buy their products, visit their townships, stay overnight and remind your friends and family the drought continues.

The Queensland Drought appeal is proudly supported by the RNA and all Ekka attendees are invited to consider donating at
