COMMUNITY SAFETY GRANTS OPEN TO FUND SECURITY UPGRADES

Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz is calling on kindergartens, schools, community organisations and local councils to apply for grant funding under round five of the Safer Communities Fund.

Mr Buchholz said grants would be made available to eligible community organisations under round five, for initiatives aimed at reducing crime, violence, anti-social behaviour and other security risks driven by racial and or religious intolerance.

“This fund is about improving the safety of our community spaces and places where the community gathers. It is our Government’s priority to ensure that all in our community are safe, particularly children, from attacks, harassment and violence of any kind.

“I urge all schools, pre-schools, community groups and Councils to consider areas in their local community for funding of projects to enhance safety and security.

“Eligible projects can include the installation of CCTV cameras, security lighting, fencing, intercoms and similar projects that increase security,” Mr Buchholz said.

The minimum grant amount is $10,000 with a maximum of $500,000 per campus and $1,000,000 per organisation.

Mr Buchholz said Round five was now open and prospective applicants should visit https://www.business.gov.au/assistance/safer-communities-fund-round-5-infrastructure-grants to apply.

The Australian Government has committed a further $55 million for round five of the Safer Communities Fund.
