SCENIC RIM ELIGIBLE FOR TAX REPRIEVE
Saturday, 23 November 2019
Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz today said Scenic Rim residents and businesses with outstanding tax obligations were eligible for a reprieve in their Tax obligations.
“I've made representations to the Assistant Treasurer to ensure that Scenic Rim residents are eligible for a deferral. The Minister has assured me that residents impacted by bushfire may still be eligible for a deferral and should contact the ATO to discuss their personal circumstances,” said Mr Buchholz.
“The ATO understands that in situations such as bushfire, taxpayers should not face any additional stress related to their tax obligations.”
Mr Buchholz said the bushfires were a disaster and were forces beyond the control of those in the region being impacted.
"This isn't a time to worry about your tax affairs, this is a time to be with friends, family and community.
“I acknowledge many of the business owners and residents impacted could also be volunteering for the RFS.
Mr Buchholz said the reprieve measures would apply for example to businesses in relation to lodging their quarterly business activity statement or taxpayers who have a tax bill following the lodgement of their return for 2018-19.
"If your BAS is due, if you have a tax debt, need help with your records or have any other outstanding issue with the ATO, you can be supported during this tough time.
Those impacted individuals and businesses concerned about their tax obligations need to call the ATO on 1800 806 218 or have their tax agent do so.
