Keep Our School Chappies!
The National Schools Chaplaincy Program, introduced by the Howard Government, has been operating successfully for more than a decade now - helping to provide pastoral care and general support to many local school communities.
School Chaplains enrich the social fabric of their schools with services delivered including: breakfast clubs and food programs, lunchtime activities, one-on-one support, and staff and parent support.
In 2014, the Coalition Government committed $243.8million over four years to fund the program until the end of the 2018 school year. Every year, more than 3000 schools have been able to engage the services of a chaplain since 2014 as a result – many supported and assisted by SU Chaplaincy which also provides funding, training and resources.
I am fighting to ensure that the funding extends beyond the 2018 school year – and you can help. Please add you name to my online petition so I can let the Treasurer and Education Minister know how much our local community values the work of Chappies in our schools.
