Statement outlining feelings & requests of people of Lockyer Valley to be read
A special community church service will be held at Murphys Creek at 10am on Sunday 16 January. The service will be held at the local pub and be led by a local chaplain. Scott Buchholz, Federal MP for Wright (Lockyer Valley, Grantham region) will attend.
Mr Buchholz, who spent yesterday in the region meeting locals and being briefed by police, said this simple service means a lot to locals. This is their first chance to mourn together and support each other in a structured way.
Deeply moved by the devastation he saw yesterday, Mr Buchholz was equally amazed by the attitude of the people. The people of the region are emotionally fragile yet display a bravery that is remarkable, he said.
Locals are looking forward to this special service. While Mr Buchholz welcomed media coverage of what will be an emotional event, he asked media representatives to be respectful and not to intrude on the actual service. As an advocate for his people, Mr Buchholz will make a statement to media at the end of the service to outline the feelings and requests of the people of the Lockyer Valley who have suffered so much.
