Christmas Creek will be more resilient to future flooding with $256,509 in funding under the 2015-18 National Partnership Agreement on Natural Disaster Resilience.
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz said the funding will replace a culvert and provide for further works on a Christmas Creek crossing to prevent erosion from significant weather events.
“This funding is all about increasing the resilience of the Christmas Creek crossing to prevent erosion when water is over the road,” Mr Buchholz said.
“Christmas Creek is a high impact waterway and ultimately this work will reduce repair time and costs associated with these weather events and provide a safer crossing for locals.”
Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen welcomed the funding announcement and said Council appreciated the ongoing support of both the State and Federal Governments in strengthening the region's infrastructure against future extreme weather events.
“Without these programs, a region like ours would never be able to fully recover from events such as the flooding from ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie,” he said.
