Long suffering residents experiencing broadband difficulties in parts of Greenbank and surrounding areas will have the opportunity to discuss the issue with Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Communications and Broadband, Luke Hartsuyker MP, at a community forum on the 15th of April.
The community forum has been organised by local Federal Member Scott Buchholz MP to allow residents to voice their concerns and discuss practical solutions to the communications blackspot.
Fast, reliable and affordable broadband is absolutely essential for businesses and for households. No question about it. My constituents in Greenbank are being robbed of a whole range of opportunities as a result of the broadband blackspot in the area, Scott Buchholz said.
The crux of this issue is that Telstra will not upgrade the local exchange to allow residents to access ADSL as they are holding off for the NBN roll out. And the NBN roll out is being botched by the Gillard government. This is why I have organized this community forum with Mr. Hartsuyker.
Mr Buchholz MP recently spoke out in Parliament on behalf of local residents and had a special meeting in Canberra with Shadow Minister for Communications and Broadband Malcolm Turnbull MP to discuss ways to address local problems under the Coalitions practical Broadband plan.
As a result of my meeting with Malcolm Turnbull, his Shadow Parliamentary Secretary is coming to hear local concerns. Its important that we work together to find a solution to the communications blackspots issues that many local residents face.
The community forum is open to all. To RSPVP call 5541 0150 or email Scott.Buchholz.MP@aph.gov.au. The forum is being held at the Greenbank Sports and Recreation Club, 720 768 Middle Road, Greenbank on Monday the 15th of April 2013 from 3 to 5 pm.
