The Morrison Coalition Government is extending the Drought Communities Programme with an additional $75 million in further support for drought stricken communities across Australia announced as part of the next phase of the drought package.
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz welcomed the funding saying it will provide immediate and short-term support for farmers and communities in the Lockyer doing it tough.
“The Morrison Coalition is providing an additional $75 million this financial year for eligible councils, like Lockyer Valley Regional Council to address local needs,” Mr Buchholz said.
“I know drought is felt as hard on the main street in Gatton as it is in the back paddock in Grantham which is why our drought response is designed to help farmers as well as the towns and communities that surround them in the Lockyer Valley.”
“This initial $1 million of the nationwide $75 million in funding will deliver flexibility for Lockyer Valley Regional Council to choose projects that will have the biggest impact locally”.
“Councils will be invited to submit appropriate projects, which address local conditions and needs. The program will prioritise projects that use local businesses to the greatest degree possible” Mr Buchholz said,
“I will continue to work with Mayor Tanya Milligan and the Lockyer Valley Regional Council to ensure we support local farmers and our local communities through the Drought Communities Programme,
“We’re on your side and I’ll continue to work as part of the Morrison Coalition Government to ensure we all get through this drought, together”.
