Yesterday the Gillard Government announced that it intends to scrap its family tax benefits in next weeks budget, a decision which affects over twelve thousand families in Wright.
Im disappointed in the Government for choosing to cut costs by starting with families. Especially after they said this tax benefit was their way of spreading the benefits of the boom said Scott Buchholz MP, Federal Member for Wright.
The family benefit would have provided $300 to eligible families with one child and $600 to families with two children or more and was to be funded by the mining tax.
Scott Buchholz MP says that he is all too aware of the struggles average Australian families are going through at the moment to make ends meet.
I know that many families in my electorate from Logan Village to the Lockyer Valley are making serious sacrifices in order to live from week to week. Its a financial rollercoaster a lot of the time.
The family tax benefit would have gone a long way to ease the cost of living pressures on mums and dads. Wayne Swan had the nerve to say that nobody has lost any money, thats simply not true. Twelve thousand families in my electorate have lost money, said Mr. Buchholz.
Mr. Buchholz said the real message that Wright families would take away from the Governments decision is that Labor cant be trusted to keep its promises or honour its word.
Labor promised no carbon tax, a Budget surplus, 500,000 new jobs and increased family payments and every one of these promises has been broken.
We cant forget that Labor has run up almost $300 billion in gross debt with an additional $7 billion in interest all the while increasing and/or creating 30 new taxes on Australian businesses and families.
Only the Coalitions plan, experience and discipline can return the Budget to sustainable surpluses, reduce debt and provide real support to local families to help them get ahead.
