Federal MP for Wright Scott Buchholz has thanked Queenslanders for remembering the people of the Lockyer Valley by observing a minutes silence yesterday.
The state stopped for a minute at 2:33pm exactly a week after the massive storm hit Toowoomba, resulting in the first lives lost in the region. The water then gushed down the range into the Valley towns, destroying almost everything in its path including many more lives.
Mr Buchholz said it was humbling to see how the state responded and in particular thanked radio stations and Channel 7s Sunrise program, who supported his call.
Mr Buchholz has been in the Lockyer Valley each day and spent yesterday assisting locals with practical help like bringing in washing machines and moving furniture. Yesterday was a small but significant moment where we symbolically stood in love, sympathy and support with the families that have lost love ones, he said.
