Scott Buchholz, Federal Member for Wright this week joined local Scenic Rim Councillor Virginia West, Canungra Sport and Recreation President Wayne Reise and the club executive to inspect plans to upgrade the sewerage system at the Canungra Showgrounds.
Mr Buchholz said with many events every year and utilised as a year round campervan stop, the upgrades are needed to ensure the ongoing viability and use of this important community asset.
“Canungra and the hinterland is a hub of community events, tourism and activities and we need to do all we can to ensure the community remains a place for tourism and trade in our region,”
“After speaking with Wayne and the executive of the Canungra Sport and Recreation Association it’s clear that the proposed installation of sanitary drainage, holding tanks and a soil dump point at the Canungra Showgrounds is vitally needed to protect and enhance the grounds,”
“Locals will well know the Canungra Showgrounds as the home of the show and the rodeo amongst other events; however it’s also a popular spot for campers to pull up for a break,”
“I was in Canberra last week beating down the Minister’s door to get the funding and will be making more calls to try and get this project over the line for our region” Mr Buchholz said.
Scenic Rim Councillor for Division 3, Virginia West said the project is a community priority and will be a substantial upgrade benefiting our local events like the Canungra Show and the Canungra Rodeo.
“It was great to meet with Scott and the executive from the Canungra Sport and Recreation Association to go through the plans for this proposed significant upgrade to the showgrounds.”
“Scott has been a great advocate for our community in Canberra and I hope he is successful with this application for Canungra”.
