The Australian Government has launched a dedicated website in response to the COVID-19 crisis, to support the flow of accurate information in a timely manner to the public.
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz said there had been many reports of misinformation in the community and this was causing anxiety, fear and was impacting on the everyday decisions of locals.
“We’ve seen the rumours of an ‘imminent’ lock down, which has caused people to rush to the shops, to panic buy.
“We’ve seen the misinformation about testing, resulting in a significant number of people turning up to fever clinics unnecessarily.
“We’ve seen the rush to get essential medicines, such as asthmol and basics such as children’s paracetamol. Because there has been misinformation about supply.
“By providing this channel of communication, the Australian Government is opening an avenue for all Australians to get accurate, up to date information on a variety of matters – health related, financial support, travel restrictions, key contacts and key updates – at the click of a button,” Mr Buchholz said.
The Australia.gov.au site will feature updates from Government and provides link to the latest Coronavirus news, updates and advice from government agencies across Australia – to make accessing information simpler.
Mr Buchholz urged for people to be calm, kind and respectful because regardless of your situation, we’re in this together.
Ends.
