Works have begun at the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish Community Centre in Gatton to provide a safer and more welcoming environment for the local community.
The Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish received $20,000 through the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program to bitumen the car park and install air conditioning and lighting.
Finance Council Chairman Derek Pingel said the funding would greatly benefit the local community.
“The community centre is a popular venue for activities and events but is almost unusable in the heat of summer, the inclusion of air conditioning will make the centre a more useful facility for the local community,” Mr Pingel said.
“The funding will also go towards bitumening and installing lighting in the carpark which will ensure safe access to people with disability and parents with children in strollers.”
“The community centre is a space for all people and all denominations to come together, make connections, build ties and create a community.”
Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz congratulated the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish on their success.
“The Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish works hard to provide community support and a space for locals to use and enjoy,” Mr Buchholz said.
“I am proud to be part of a government that supports the initiatives of community-minded groups like the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish through this grant.”
“I thank them for their continued commitment to the local community.”
