The Boonah Community Garden Association has received a boost to continue its work in the local community after receiving a Commonwealth Volunteer Grant.
Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz congratulated the Boonah Community Garden Association, which is among 39 community organisations to share in $151,101 under the Volunteer Grants Program.
The Boonah Community Garden Association received $4,619 for outdoor furniture and landscaping and gardening equipment.
President Honni Hayton said the money would improve the work the Association does in the community.
“The money has allowed us to expand our project, we’ve purchased a pergola and a barbeque and we have plans to cover the space with shade cloth,” Mrs Hayton said.
“Our goal is to create a beautiful space with a great social atmosphere that the whole community can contribute to and enjoy.”
“We have the garden, now we need the community and we’re always looking for new volunteers of any age.”
Mr Buchholz thanked the Boonah Community Garden Association for their work in the community.
“From this little garden our great community can grow, and I’m so glad we as a government can help boost the capacity of our local volunteers through this grant,” Mr Buchholz said.
“The value of local volunteers in our community is immeasurable – they build community spirit and they put in the time and effort to provide services to their fellow community members.”
“I thank the Boonah Community Garden Association for their continuing generosity.”
