Do you know a local individual, team, organisation or service provider that has improved the lives of locals with disability and contributed to increased recognition of equality and human rights for all Australians?
Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz urged locals to apply for the 2017 National Disability Awards.
“The Awards seek to highlight local’s achievements in reducing social discrimination and creating positive change for people with disability,” Mr Buchholz said.
“Amazing programs and projects are being produced every day for locals by locals and it’s extremely important we recognise people with disability and those who work to support them in the community and enrich their lives.”
Applications are open in five national categories including the Lesley Hall Leadership Award, Employer of the Year Award, Community Excellence Award, Community Excellence Award, Excellence in Innovation and Excellence in Education and Training.
Nominations close 6 August 2017 ahead of the awards ceremony held on International Day of People with Disability.
Mr Buchholz said disability is more a reflection of societal barriers than a person’s diagnosis.
“People with disability should be seen for their ability and I encourage local individuals, teams, organisations or service providers supporting their potential to apply.”
