The federal MP for Wright which takes in the Lockyer Valley towns of Grantham, Withcott and Murphys Creek that were demolished by the massive wall of water that hit the region a week ago has asked all Queenslanders to observe one minutes silence at exactly 2:33 Queensland time today Monday January 17.
Scott Buchholz noted that today is exactly a week after the massive storm hit Toowoomba, resulting in the first lives lost in the region. The water then gushed down the range into the Valley towns, destroying almost everything in its path including many more lives.
Mr Buchholz said it is appropriate to take a moment to remember the deceased, including those that are missing but not confirmed dead, one week after the tragedy occurred. The water didnt hit the Lockyer Valley until later, but I think it is important to observe a minutes silence at the exact moment this freak of nature started in Toowoomba which was 2:33pm. He said he has photos of the event with the time recorded.
Mr Buchholz has been in the Lockyer Valley each day to assist locals. Yesterday he attended the community church service at Murphys Creek and assisted the town to secure refrigerated containers. Hes asking all Queenslanders to join him in this moment of respect and reflection. Wherever you are, please stop for a minute and remember those innocent people who lost their lives simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, he said.
He is asking all Queensland media outlets predominantly radio stations – to support his call and in turn encourage their listeners to observe this solemn time. I need the support of media to get this message out. Together we can in fact we must – remember those who perished.
