Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz is urging local residents to nominate friends, neighbours or others who helped out during the recent floods, for special thanks and recognition.
Some of the stories Ive heard as Ive visited flood affected locals are both devastating and heartening. Communities have rallied together and people have gone out of their way to lend a hand to others during the recent crisis, Mr Buchholz said.
The clean up will continue for a long time and its tough work.
I want to recognise our flood volunteers those who went to great lengths to help others – maybe a neighbour offering a place to stay or strangers who provided food or helped with the clean up.
I think its important that the Federal Parliament acknowledges this special community spirit.
Mr Buchholz said he would issue special Certificates of Appreciation to flood volunteers and also recognise the award recipients in a speech to Parliament.
For some residents, this was the second devastating flood in as many years. Its heartbreaking stuff. Ive heard so many people say they dont know how they would have got through it without the help of others.
This is a way for individuals and our local community to say thank you and let those who lent a hand know they are truly appreciated.
Mr Buchholz said local residents who wanted to nominate a flood volunteer for recognition could download the nomination form from his website, or obtain one by calling his office on 5541 0150. Nominations close on the 31st March.
People who volunteer to help never seek recognition, but Id like to provide a quiet pat on the back and let them know how much their kindness meant. I hope local residents will take the time to nominate those deserving of special thanks.
