A Green Army of 15,000 young Australians will take on environmental projects to clean up our community under the Coalitions Environment Plan and local Member for Wright Scott Buchholz will ensure that our region is one of the first to benefit.
Mr Buchholz welcomed Greg Hunt, Shadow Minister for Climate Action, Environment and Heritage to Spring Mountain Reserve today to inspect the area and call for local projects.
The Coalition has a strong track record of delivering practical, on-the-ground environmental projects, having established the Green Corps under the Howard Government. We are tackling environmental issues head on with a 15,000 strong Green Army which will enable teams to operate in nearly every community across the country, Mr Buchholz said.
Mr Buchholz said he would work closely with local community groups and Council to ensure that our local environment benefitted from the program. Participants in the Green Army will receive a training wage and supervision, providing valuable work experience for local young people.
We are asking the community to submit ideas for worthwhile projects. It may be cleaning up a local creek, restoring a bushwalking path, establishing a boardwalk or planting trees for example,” Mr Buchholz said. Each project may take up to 25 weeks to complete.
Given the recent floods, there are many local environment reserves in need of restoration work. We are keen for local environment groups or councils to be involved they may work together with the Green Army to get the job done or they may act as co-ordinators for projects which they see as a priority for our area.
The Green Army will be a key part of the Coalition Governments environment policy if elected.
Areas such as Spring Mountain, Tamborine Mountain, the Logan River catchment, and local environment parks throughout Wright could be possible options for the Green Army.
Importantly, we want the community to come up with the projects to ensure they are locally driven and are the right priorities for our local region, Mr Buchholz said.
The Green Army is part of the Coalitions environment policy to protect and enhance Australias environment for future generations through direct action and engagement with our community.
