Scott Buchholz MP, the Federal Member for Wright, welcomed members of the Lockyer Valley Regional Youth Council (LVRC) to Parliament House in Canberra. Deputy Mayor, Tanya Milligan, Anita Baldo Youth Mentor, Janis Hall Coordinator and Aussie Philipsen provided escort to the 14 members on their journey from the Lockyer Valley to Canberra, in the LVRC bus.
The LVRC Youth Council group is a wide and varied, ranging from ages 12 to 20 years old. We are always looking for interested new members, Ms Milligan said.
The LVRC Youth Council were met by Mr Buchholz in Parliament and taken on an insiders tour of Parliament House. Mr Buchholz took the group on an enlightened tour with awareness, statistics, and places that only a Member of Parliament can provide.
The group were delighted to meet other members of Parliament during the tour, including Hon Julie Bishop and Senator Barnaby Joyce to mention a few.
This is the 5th year that the LVRC Youth Council have conducted their Leadership Program and week long road-trip, also visiting, the National Gallery, Australian Institute of Sport, Snowy Hydro Electric Scheme, and a trip to the snowfields for some recreation.
Mr Buchholz was most impressed with the political awareness of each of the students, with all having varying opinions on the political landscape including issues of leadership, youth, regional development, and environment.
We can all be proud of the calibre of young people whom I have met today from the Lockyer Valley. The future leadership of the Lockyer Valley is in good hands given the enthusiasm of the members of the Youth Council, Mr Buchholz said.
