Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz MP has championed Eat Local Week whilst in Canberra, sending an open invite to the weeks festivities for pollies and foodies alike.
Before the House of Representatives, Mr. Buchholz highlighted for the public record the significance of agriculture and tourism in the Scenic Rim region and the important role Eat Local week plays in supporting these industries.
Mr. Buchholz outlined to the enthusiastic recognition of the house that an estimated $210 million is contributed annually to the regional economy through agriculture and tourism.
Eat Local Week is a highlight on the social calendar of many people, not just in the Scenic Rim but South East Queensland on a whole, with people making a special trip out to our beautiful part of the country just to take part in the week of events,
I hope my statements in the house will add to the profile of the event. I just want people; maybe a few hungry politicians; from outside of the Scenic Rim to get involved and realize how wonderful and dynamic our area is he said.
Mr. Buchholz also outlined a selection of activities on offer as part of the Eat Local Week program and has since received several emails from MPs requesting further details and expressing their interest and support of the event.
Mr. Buchholz has cemented his position as an advocate for local agriculture and industry over his 3 years as Federal Member for Wright with his work during the floods and the dairy industry.
One of my priorities as the regions Federal Member is working towards a fair go for growers, producers and businesses, this starts at the farm gate and local initiatives like Eat Local Week,
I have no doubt that Eat Local Week 2013 will be a success and will continue to grow in popularity in years to come. There really is something for everyone in the program said Mr. Buchholz.
