The Australian Government has launched a new Jobs Hub to highlight opportunities for Australians to access new employment.
As the economic environment continued to change as a result of the ongoing impact of the coronavirus crisis, Mr Buchholz said the jobs market would move with it and that would mean some Australians would be out of work, as we have already seen.
In response, the Australian Government is providing additional resources to help businesses find and keep workers as well as support for workers to get into jobs.
“We have announced unprecedented support for Australian families, workers and businesses. From cash payments for those losing their jobs, to families facing increased of living through to $1500 JobKeeper payments to keep workers on.
“The Australian Government is going to continue to do everything we can to keep Australians connected to the workforce.
“Jobs are so important to our way of life, our families, our health, our economy and support such as JobKeeper is about providing businesses with the capacity to keep those jobs in tough times.
“There still many jobs out there that need to be filled, while some industries and areas of the economy are hit hard – others are in demand and we need people to fill those roles, not only to ensure supply, but to contribute to keeping the economy going,” Mr Buchholz said.
“Without truck drivers, our product doesn’t get to the grocery stores. Without pharmacists, our medicines are not dispensed. Without farmers and farm workers, product isn’t picked, processed and packed.
“There are a range of opportunities available, from call centre operators, health workers to administration assistants and I expect the site to grow.
“I want to thank all of those essential workers, continuing to turn up to work, to provide the services and support Australians rely on, from health workers through to retailers – thank you.”
Mr Buchholz said employers who are hiring and want support to connect with potential candidates can also contact the Department of Education, Skills and Employment at workforce@dese.gov.au to be connected directly with businesses reducing their workforces; and the employment services network to source suitable candidates.
