Students at St Mary’s Beaudesert now have a safer space to wait for the afternoon bus, thanks to
the Australian Governments Local Schools Community Fund.
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz recently visited St Mary’s to meet with Principal Kevin Billion and student leaders, before being shown the new shelter.
Mr Buchholz said it was great to see students benefit from the funding injection.
“I would often see the students, standing out the front of the school waiting to load up onto the bus.
“Unfortunately, there was little shelter in place previously, to provide protection from hot summer days or sudden downpours.
“It is great to see that in partnership with the Australian Government, St Mary’s have been able to construct this great new bus shelter and waiting area for students,” Mr Buchholz said.
“We’ve provided $6,100 to go towards to the construction of the shelter, with St Mary’s funding the
rest!”
Principal of St Mary’s, Kevin Bullion said the community is extremely appreciative of the Governments support to construct the new bus shelter facility for their students.
“This new facility which would not have been possible without the federally funded program provides a safe place for the students to wait for their bus out of the weather.
“With the growing number of families with school aged children moving to the area seeking enrolment at St Mary’s, this new bus shelter will support the increasing number of children travelling to St Mary’s on the bus.
“The school contributed funds to this project, however it would not have been possible without the local schools community fund,” Mr Bullion said.
Mr Bullion said the school captains were very pleased to welcome and personally thank the Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz.
