Disaster assistance is now available to Councils in the Gold Coast, Logan and Scenic Rim following sustained heavy rainfall and ongoing flash-flooding across Southern Queensland.
Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz whose electorate takes in the Scenic Rim Regional Council, as well as parts of the Gold Coast and Logan City – where flooding had been severe – said through the DRFA, a range of assistance was available to help councils meet clean-up costs and repairs to roads.
“Across our part of the world, we have seen sustained heavy rainfall which as caused landslips, damaged roads and left a significant amount of debris across the region, particularly on the road network.
“Obviously the full extent of the damage will be assessed when waters subside, mostly in those communities that have been isolated due to roads being cut off,” Mr Buchholz said. “Our focus is making sure we re-open those communities and get repairs underway quickly, especially to the road network,” he said.
The Federal and State Governments have acted quickly to ensure support is available to the impacted local council areas for their counter disaster operations and the restoration of essential public assets. “The Australian Government is working closely with the Queensland Government and stands ready to provide further assistance where needed,” Mr Buchholz said.
