The community of Gatton will have a safer run on the roads through a $41,500 Commonwealth-funded upgrade to Litfin Bridge on Robinsons Road.
Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz and Lockyer Valley Regional Council Cr Janice Holstein announced the upgrade on Monday.
Mr Buchholz said the upgrade would improve signage and delineation on the approaches to the bridge and replace a damaged guardrail.
“Through my advocacy and the advocacy of the Lockyer Valley Regional Council we’ve been able to secure funding through the Commonwealth Black Spot program for this vital safety upgrade,” he said.
“By fixing and upgrading road locations where crashes are occurring through safety measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts, we are helping make our local roads safer for all motorists.”
Cr Holstein welcomed the funding boost and said the upgrade would benefit local road users.
“I am grateful Litfin Bridge is being upgraded through this federal program and thank Mr Buchholz for his commitment to making our local roads safer,” she said.
“Upgrading signage and visibility will improve the safety of Liftin Bridge and make a difference for locals and everyone who uses the road.”
Mr Buchholz said on average completed Black Spot road projects reduce fatalities and injuries by 30 per cent.
“My hope is that the upgrade to Litfin Bridge will save lives and reduce road trauma,” he said.
