Scott Buchholz, the Member for Wright, has secured much-needed funding to upgrade the Gatton Shire Hall through a $439,350 investment under Round 3 of the Federal Liberal National Government’s highly successful Building Better Regions Fund.
Scott Buchholz said the Liberal National Government was able to invest in local projects like the Hall compliance upgrade because of responsible economic management.
“Like all good things the Hall has aged with time, resulting in some of the facilities becoming a little outdated. Unfortunately, that means the Hall no longer meets our high building code standards,” Mr Buchholz said.
Mr Buchholz said the funds will provide the Lockyer Valley Regional Council with the capacity to renovate and replace non-compliant and outdated features within the Gatton Shire Hall.
“By improving the level of access and upgrading the facilities, we want to encourage more use of the hall by the community and businesses. We want to see more events and activities hosted locally,” Mr Buchholz said.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Councillor Tanya Milligan said the financial assistance provided by the Federal Liberal National Government would allow Council to undertake a range of projects on this important community facility.
“This funding boost from the Federal Liberal National Government will allow Council to upgrade the facility’s electrical services – including switchboards, and internal and external lighting – as well as improve energy efficiency.
“It will also fund an upgrade of the smoke detection and alarm system and the interior entrance foyer including new floor coverings, wall linings and joinery.
“As one of the region’s largest facilities, the Gatton Shire Hall is an integral part of not only the Gatton community, but the Lockyer Valley as a whole.
“Each year it plays host to some of the region’s largest community events, including dance recitals and school events. We thank Scott Buchholz and the Federal Liberal National Government for this investment, which will make a real difference to this facility and our community,” Mayor Milligan said.
