The Morrison Government is partnering with the Wongaburra Society of Beaudesert to upgrade the facility, deliver modern beds and services with a $10 million grant.
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz joined CEO of Wongaburra Aged Care, Atul Kumar Singh to announce a $10 million Australian Government grant under the Aged Care Approvals Round.
Mr Buchholz said he was an advocate for Wongaburra and he was pleased the Morrison Government was delivering for the community and making investments in local aged care.
“I am pleased to have met with Atul and the Wongaburra Society Board, to hear first-hand about the upgrade plans, the great level of hard work and effort that has gone into making this plan a reality.
“It was fantastic to hear the community connection, to hear the stories of locals past and present that have built and continue to build on the Wongaburra legacy.
Mr Buchholz said the upgrades would replace a 40-year old building and will bring on-line an additional 11 residential care places.
“This project will deliver better access to aged care in the Beaudesert area, improve amenities for residents and support the viability of the service into the future.
Mr Singh said Wongaburra Society, a community-based not-for-profit aged care provider, commenced operations in January 1989 and currently operates 125 residential care places. With the new development, the total number of residential aged care places will increase to 136.
“We welcome the investment of the Australian Government for Wongaburra, without this funding the project could not become a reality and we want to thank Scott Buchholz for his advocacy and for all of the support in Government.
“Our team here has worked extremely hard on this project, and we are now well advanced in the planning stage, the $10 million capital will support our approximate $25 million project for the construction of a new 72-bed residential care building,” Mr Singh said.
The project is expected to be completed in January 2024.
This significant development of Wongaburra is an opportunity to continue to provide quality care to the rural and regional community and support local businesses and generate much needed employment for the people of the Scenic Rim and broader communities.
Wongaburra is also looking forward to expanding its Home Care operations to the Scenic Rim local community in the future.
Mr Buchholz said the Government is committed to Aged Care and through the last budget, was making an additional $17.7 billion investment into care services to significantly improve the system.
“The Liberals and Nationals in government will continue to back our health system, by guaranteeing record levels of funding for hospitals, medicines and Medicare and importantly improving local services such as Wongaburra,” Mr Buchholz said.
