GRANTS of up to $5000 are up for grabs to help community organisations from across the electorate of Wright support their volunteers.
The funding is being provided under a $10 million Volunteer Grant funding round, which is open until December 20.
Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz urged local groups to apply.
“This is a great opportunity for community organisations in our region to apply for a grant of between $1000 and $5000 to support the important work of their volunteers,” he said.
“It is well worth applying, because in the last round we gave a total of $258,644 to 66 community organisations in the electorate of Wright alone.
“That money is already being put to good use, with groups putting it towards things like computer gear, training, fuel costs, first aid and storage.”
Mr Buchholz said groups could also use the grants to help cover costs like background security checks or transport for volunteers who might have a disability.
This funding is part of the Commonwealth Government’s $28 million over 2016-17 for the Strengthening Communities program.
Regional and Indigenous organisations are particularly encouraged to apply.
